ISSUE: Pop-up dialog boxes keep appearing on Library Computer Commons iMacs mentioning updating certificates and asking for username and password. Could be related to launching web browser, but can also happen at any time. (Note: This isn't logging into the Mac, which shouldn't require a login. If Mac asks for login credentials to access computer, reboot Mac.)
POSSIBLE CAUSE: This might be due to Mac unsuccessfully trying to access network resources.
POTENTIAL SOLUTION: For iMacs with ethernet cable plugged in (blue cable), Wi-Fi isn't needed to access Internet. Turning off Wi-Fi networking so that Mac uses the wired ethernet network connection might resolve the issue. (This can be done by clicking on Wi-Fi icon via the Status Menus in the macOS Menu Bar.)
